I have a question about underage international travel?

I have some 15 year old, who wants to go from Chicago to Sweden. He wants to go alone, his parents agreed, but they want to know if it's possilble. If he has a passport, a ticket, what else does he need to do to travel? What kind of permission does he need to leave?
