Why does it suck being the nice guy?

I have always been the nice guy. I sit around and just take loads of bs from all my friends who love to dump their **** on me. I don't care if you like him, or he likes you, or if you don't understand why he doesn't like you. I hate being the person people can talk to because all it has gotten me is an inferiority complex, depression, anxiety and the long ensuing path of loneliness. I have smoked, I have drank, I have done so many other things that people like to say "ease the pain" but nothing has come even close to helping. On top of that Im even too much of a puss to keep up with the asshole routine or even go to someone professional for help. I dont really expect anyone to read this, or even care, but it feels sort of good to vent.

Taking pictures with a cut out paper doll?

During a tour my husband and I went to I kept seeing a couple taking pictures but every time they would take a picture they would put a small cut out paper shape of a boy doll next to them or whatever they were taking a picture of. I have actually noticed this with other people and even with some famous people on TV, does anyone know why they do this (David Hasselhoff was holding one when taking a picture with his family on the red carpet)? Am I overreacting about my grandma's anti-American attitude?

My Grandmother was racist towards blacks. We come from a family who owned slaves and who live in the South. She never treated anyone rude and only shared her views with family. I know Canada and Sweden healthcare system is nice. However, do we really think there systems would work in the USA. It is easy to have a federal bankrolled healthcare system when you have such a small population and a much higher tax system. It is also much less expensive to run social programs when you really aren't responsible for keeping a strong military force (not only numerically but from a military weapons development stand point.) As nice as the social programs are in Canada and Sweden, I just don't see how a larger country with all our global responsibilities and a large population could sustain a healthcare system like theirs.

I think you meant to ask why Adelaide is 30 mins behind Australian Eastern Standard time, rather than the rest of the world? Easy...same reason Sweden is so far behind the Australian time zones: location. Australia is a huge country (Sweden is tiny) and Adelaide is a huge distance from the east coast, it makes more sense for it to be behind in order for the time to fit in when the sun is actually shining in the sky (and when it's not). Western Australia is further behind than Adelaid because of it's location also.

I'm a swim instructor at a local pool. recently, I was doing a placement test on a 3 year old girl. I couldn't get her to focus for more than literally 5 or 6 seconds and she continually tried to break free from me to splash around in the water. Normally, i would let her do this for a minute or two as long as she was being safe about it, but we were on a very tight schedule and i needed to get her in the pool and back out again. Eventually I came to the decision that she should be in level 1, and then I asked her to get out of the pool. I ended up walking hand in hand with her up the ramp because she wouldn't listen. I used all sorts of strategies to get her out... counting to three, telling her that it's time to go see mommy, telling her that play time was over and it was time to get out, etc... It ended up being necessary for me to hold her firmly by the hand and drag her out of the pool. Only problem, she kept breaking free and running down the ramp away from me and I had to start all over. I eventually called my supervisor over and he tried all the same things, with no luck. Finally, her dad came over and plucked her out of the pool. This little girl has a twin, too, and whenever they saw each other, chaos ensued. Parents always sign their kids up for the same lessons, and if I get these two girls together, I'd be completely at a loss as to how to deal with these two, as well as 3 or 4 other preschoolers. Any tips for effectively managing preschoolers so I can avoid another encounter like this?

Today, while brushing my hair in the morning I noticed multiple strands falling out of my fault. I felt irritation and applied olive oil, assuming I had dandruff. Hockey foot pains, not sure if it's cramps, been playing with no problems for years, still young.?

I've been playing hockey for over 10 years, I am 19 so it's definitely not an aging problem or out of shape problem. Just recently when I take off my skates, I have tremendous pain in the bottoms of my feet, I cannot put any pressure on them for at least 15 minutes, and have a hard time walking for the ensuing hours. I've been using the same skates for over a year, and haven't been off hockey for a long period of time. Anyone have any advice? Have your children ever pushed buttons in public and you reacted poorly?

Not really, respect is big in our house and tantrums are rare, we have taught them that that is simply not going to get them a thing, so when they do pull something in public, its rare enough that Im able to keep my cool about it. I have raised my voice, but I dont think thats reacting poorly, its simply showing them with my body language that I am upset with their actions, if you keep a calm soft voice they will think its no big deal if they dont stop. I have never screamed in their faces and have never cursed at them, nor them at me. Parents who do that are just asking for disrespectful kids. Its pretty clear that the child in your situation isnt getting the right kind of discipline, hes getting screamed and cursed at rather then actually being punished and disciplined. If they were my child, the moment they "demanded" $20, I would inform them that they either change their tone or we will be leaving the banquet that moment and they will spend the night in their room. If they cursed, we would leave that moment and they would get a dab of soap plus a weeks grounding when we got home, cursing at a parent is one of the most disrespectful things you can do in my opinion. I honestly dont want to sound like a bragging parent, but I cant recall a time that my older sons have misbehaved really in public since they were toddlers, every once in a while there will be a whining incident but that never escalates to anything further. When my toddlers misbehave, all toddlers throw a tantrum in public at some point, I do what you do, I give them one warning in a slightly raised voice to behave, and if they dont, we go sit outside and I let them cry and scream all they want until they see that its not getting them anything, and they calm down, then we have a quick talk about it and go back inside. My husband has made joking threats, but the kids know just as much as he does that its a joke to tell them that hes serious in a light way, its all controlled and nothing gets out of hand. For example, my four year old daughter was tapping her feet on the back of his seat in the car, he said in a light way "Natalie you kick my seat one more time and I'll sell you to the circus", she giggled and stopped. If she had continued, she would have gotten one more less friendly warning, then we probably would have pulled the car over and given her a timeout until she was ready to behave.

Fescue grass is driving me crazy, wont bag, wont mulch?

I finally dug up the pathetic looking bermuda sod that my home builder installed when I bought my house a few years back and replaced it with fescue. The fescue came in lush and healthy just like I hoped but its a nightmare to mow. Its much thicker than the bermuda and it gums up my mower almost instantly. Im finding the blades don't ever dry out and they just clump together when cut. They don't fully discharge into the bag and eventually clog the bag opening solid. The mower stalls and cursing ensues. Ive tried using the mulching insert and bagging seems to be the lesser of two evils. Ive resorted to cutting at the heat of the day once a week to cut what I hope to be short dry grass and give myself the best chance to keep the mower from stalling, and FAIL. The mower usually stalls by the time the bag gets half full and there's usually a big pile of clippings left where the mower stalls. Ive messed with the deck heights- going over it twice starting with lifting the deck all the way up then dropping it back to the mid height setting. Doesnt help. I use new gas with Sta-Bil, change the oil every year, and check/replace filters. I kept the bermuda in the front yard and it cuts just fine like it always has. Does anyone have a tip or a trick that makes cutting fescue easier or will I eventually have the bite the bullet and get a big 'ol riding mower that can power through it?

Hello my husband is accused of shooting @ a 14 year old & 5 guys over the age of 20 in the woods on New Year's. The other people had a gun & pulled it on my husband & his friends & a fight did ensue. The 14 yrs.old is a known drug user & her mother cares less what she does. My husband & our friends came home & everyone went there way. The incident was to have taken place @ 3 am, it wasn't reported until 3pm the next day. MY husband & I came home from me riding my 1st horse & r neighbor came over when we got home & told us that the police was looking for him, so him & r neighbor walked down the street to the other street where the cops were & my husband told them his name & he had heard that they were looking for him. No sooner did he say his name they had him cuffed & shoved into the car. My husband was on probation, he was getting ready to get off early per his probation officer who had told him to get the paperwork she would approve it. He didn't find out till 4 am the next morning as to what he was being arrested for. Everyone of the so called victims have records as well the only difference is that my husband had been turning it around. We are active members of our church, grandparents, & he worked at a horse rescue well not worked cause he didn't get paid he just loved doing it. I need to know if we are able to have our lawyer to have these people drug tested b4 the testify. I was told that two of the guys keep pea on them for their jobs cause they can be tested at anytime. I also have pictures of them buying drugs from a known drug house, I turned them into the police but they weren't able to do anything to them. I know that they any of them are not going to be clean. Can anyone tell me how I go about this? I was told I had chlamydia last Monday and I took the medication right away (take 4 pills in one dose and you're done). I've had a hectic two weeks and I hadn't gotten around to doing laundry. Today I was in a rush so I threw on these work pants I wore last week that were in the laundry. I'm extremely paranoid about getting reinfected with chlamydia again and I was wondering if there's any possibility that the bacteria may still be on my pants causing me to become infected again?

Why aren't university fees collectively paid in some countries?

In the US, when our university system developed, in the 1800's, nothing was really paid for by the government. Big government at the time was seen as a tool for the aid of big business, not something to help the people. That changed in the early 1900's, but our university system didn't. And as the cold war started, Americans became frustratingly weary of anything that anybody could make an argument had anything remotely to do with communism or even it's moderate cousin, socialism. Socialized education, therefore, never happened. We did develop State universities and many of them are very good and a LOT cheaper than private universities, but they are still way more expensive than most universities in Europe. And if you attend from out of state, you pay a lot more.

Bestfriend's drug addicted brother?

My best friend is a very gentle, kind and compassionate person. His brother is a known meth addict, wife beater, rage harbinger, quick to fight, all around bad person. The problem stems from this "brother being intelligent enough to manipulate the legal system to stay out of jail. He lives with his very christian parents, whom will not turn him in for anything, considering this a sort of sin to do so. This "brother" continues to do drugs, avoid child support, and bring chaos to their house. This chaos ranges from fits of rage to the drug deals and doings around the house and the fights that ensue because of these things. He is a thief and tends to have ppl coming to their house to fight him and take their stuff back. My friend and his parents are constantly having to support him financially, drive him around, do random choirs for him, pick him up at all hours of the night from random places. He has been to rehab and jail several times. What can i do to help them in this situation? Can I call a judge or some sort of legal institution to report him for these doings and get everyone into a better situation? Please HELP ME HELP THEM???????

It's a summary, and it's a fine summary at that. It's not too wordy, although you could have cut out a fair bit of this and made it more succinct. All the extra words make it seem like you're just trying to hit a word count, and not trying to make a real point. You're also going to need a more analytical approach when you write essays in college. As I said, this is a fine summary, but summarizing isn't going to make your professors happy. They've read the book too, and they're not looking for you to relay the contents in a new way. They want you to use the knowledge and information in the book to form an argument.

I got my boyfriend arrested for domestic violence - what will happen now!?

i just turned 19 and live in the UK. we were living together, he just turned 20. he doesnt have anything on his records. he has held knives to me, threatened to kill me, orally raped me, punched me in the face and left bruises, spat at me, kicked me, hit me, strangled and choked me. i had him arrested 5 weeks ago and we're not allowed any contact. well that's all fine and dandy for him as he's gone to Dubai to stay with his parents and comes back May the 25th where he is then charged. what i would like to know is if he is charged with all these things or maybe he won't be charged with all of them but the thing is there are actually several other witnesses for the different occassions he's done this to me so the police are pretty sure the assaults will go ahead, the rape may not. Anyway what i want to know is how likely will the court date be soon after he is charged? - i mean how soon is it usually for these sorts of offences? will i have to go to court? i actually want to go to court so i can speak to the judge myself. i don't want him to be banned from having contact with me. i want to be able to say goodbye. i realise what my boyfriend has done is wrong, he acts like this only when he is drunk which is no excuse, i know but all the same i believe that anyone can change if they want to and everyone deserves a second chance. What i will be really MAD about is if he just gets a fine and then is allowed to go galllavanting off to Dubai...is it likely he'll have to do community service? i want him to stay in the country to have to pay his dues and do what he deserves, his family are so wealthy that a fine will do nothing to him. i also want him to get help and i'm hoping the court will ensue this and make sure he gets help in the country!? is that about right?...so i want to know if i will go to court too, will he be banned from contacting me if i dont want that and will he have to stay in the country? - obviously you can't tell me exactly but anyone's guess would be more helpful than the police have been to me. thanks, x

Latitude or LTX M/S 2 for 07 Highlander?

I am trying to decide between Michelin's Latitude Tour or LTX M/S 2 for my 07 Highlander Sport. I am mainly looking for a safe, smooth, quiet and comfortable riding tire that will last better than Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza's that are currently on the car (only lasted 36K miles). Most of my driving is city with some short stretches of highway. LTX M/S 2 gets glowing reviews, but I'm not sure since it is aimed at SUV and Light Truck vs. Latitude that focuses on SUV and Crossover markets.

Could a band from the continent get big enough to tour America in their native tongue?

Part of the reason for ABBA's success was their ability to perform in multiple languages. In addition to English and Swedish they performed in Spanish. (I believe they had two Spanish-language albums and had Spanish versions of their top singles become hits in Europe, Mexico and South America.) I know they also recorded French and German versions of a few of their songs. There have been non-English tracks that became hits in North America but I suspect even today there would be no more than a niche anglophone audience for a group that performs primarily in another language.

Where should I go on foreign exchange to?!?

I did a study abroad to Norway and it was absolutely the best time of my life. I would definitely recommend going there. Its great if you don't have any foreign language experience because most Norwegians, especially the younger ones speak English. It is gorgeous there. People say Norwegians are cold, but I think that they are just not super outgoing. They will talk to you, but will not go out of their way to make a lot of conversation with strangers.

Call me unAmerican, but I can no longer make it through one Bruce Springsteen record. That old hit single "Born in the U.S.A." is so loud and steeped with so much shrieking that it turns my stomach. I just can't get into poor Bruce. Maybe his much earlier songs were slightly tolerable for me way way back then (ex: "Hungry Heart" or his later hit "I'm on fire"). But after a certain point I could no longer and can still no longer listen to his music.

Should I try to study abroad in Germany?

Studying abroad is a great program, which you would get so much out of! You might have to know phrases in German, in which you use everyday, with a little more. You've heard the phrase: "All that and a bag of potato chips" Well, that's probably what you'll need to know. You need to know all the daily phrases, like "Where's the restroom?" and "How are you?", which in German is "Wo ist die Toilette" and "Wie geht es Ihnen". But, that won't cut it in Germany, you will need to know a lot more. Now, if you're not looking into learning a brand new language, then I would choose Sweden, where what you said was right! Most of the language does know more than 1 or 2 languages, with most having a 2nd or 3rd language in English.

What If Aids Was Cured For Good?

What I mean mean by this is, thinking logically of the matter, what would be the ramifications of such an event? Today there was a report on Yahoo stating how a man was cured of HIV and how only 1% is immune from such a disease. This sounds great to me, but I also have to question the thought of the greater outcome if aids and hiv were to be abolished permanently. Would promiscuity rise? Marriage rates are already in the **** hole (so to speak) what would the inevitable outcome ensue? On one hand, curing people of this hideous disease is something I proudly stand by in the name of science, but on the other hand, our society is too fragile nowadays in terms of corrupt morality. Of course, this is all but my subjective opinion; I look at life as something we experience subjectively, therefore there is no real right way to do something. That still doesn't leave out the question on what would the general public do? How would they react overall? I guess this question sort of gives off a blatant answer, but I am curious to see what you think about the matter at hand. I want honest logical explanations and perhaps, some credible data to back up what you say! Thank you for reading!

I live in massachusetts, I jus turned 16 and i am a rising junior in high school. My golf team was undefeated with a 20-0 record and were Conference champs. I am currently on the New England PGA Junior Tour. I have 3 top 10's, including 2 top 5's and a second place finish. I am currently in two major events coming up, the New England Junior Open and the Merrimack Valley Golf Championship. I have 10 more New England PGA Junior Tour events to compete in this year. Also, I am hoping to do a couple events on the Future Collegians World Tour, most likely the one at TPC sawgrass in december. My handicap is a 4.3 and is going to go even lower.
